Convention Update: HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati 2015

Convention season is upon us, and one of the biggest horror cons is only a couple weeks away, HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati has had some new guest announcements, schedules are being made, ticket prices are changing and so on and so forth. So, who will be joining the ranks along with the already announced Re-Animator reunion?

Some of the new names that have been announced include Jason Mewes (Mallrats), Norman Reedus (Friday and Saturday ONLY)(The Walking Dead), Kane Hodder (Hatchet), Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary), Tom Atkins (Night of the Creeps), Madison Lintz (The Walking Dead), Jason Patric (The Lost Boys), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Alanna Masterson (The Walking Dead), Lawrence Gilliard (The Walking Dead), Terrance Zdunich (The Devil’s Carnival) and Jesse Hutch (Freddy vs. Jason). You can find the full guest list >>HERE<<.

Unfortunately, every convention is subject to having guests cancel due to work or scheduling conflicts. There have been only two cancellations as of now for this year’s Cincinnati show, Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog) and Alex Winter (The Lost Boys).

One of my personal favorite parts of conventions, especially HorrorHound, is the awesome list of films that will be screened. This years list includes some pretty promising looking films. I have only seen one of them, The Other Side, which I reviewed. You can read that review >>HERE<<. The one that I am most excited to see is Old 37 starring Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley. I’ve heard so many great things about the film, and it is finally getting a showing and will be released on DVD later in March. See the full list of films being screened along with a bit of information on them >>HERE<<.

Panels are another reason many go to conventions. HorrorHound has an impressive guest list, so of course the list of panels is going to be just as awesome. Some of them include an Old 37 panel, American Mary panel, Guardians of the Galaxy panel, Re-Animator panel and more to be scheduled. For the full list of panels and times, visit the events section.

What fun would a horror convention be without a great list of vendors to buy some cool sh!t from? HorrorHound always has one of the largest vendor lists around, and their vendor room is a horror nerd’s Wonderland. Some of the vendors on tap for this year include Dark Sky Films, Dead Ink, Living Dead Dolls, Samhain Horror, Scarebears, Super Pumpkins, Troma and so many more. For the full list, visit the vendor section of HorrorHoundWeekend.com.

As usual, the closer you wait to the date of the convention, the higher the ticket prices will be. There are still pre-sale tickets available. Single day passes are $20, Weekend passes are $40, VIP passes are $175 and weekend passes with early entry are SOLD OUT.  Pick up your tickets now at HorrorHoundWeekend.com to avoid higher prices, sell outs and longer lines at the door.

Planning on staying a couple of days of the entire weekend? Hotels near the Sharonville Convention Center are filling up fast. You may want to get your reservations made quickly to avoid longer travel times. Here is the full list of the closest hotels.

Movie Review: See No Evil 2

See No Evil 2The wait is finally over, See No Evil 2 is now available on Video On Demand and October 21st, you can own it on DVD. As a fan of the first See No Evil film from 2006, I of course had to watch the sequel especially with the Twisted Twins directing.

Before I get into the review, here is a bit of background information on the film.

Written by: Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Daby

Directed by: Jen and Sylvia Soska

Starring: Danielle Harris, Katharine Isabelle and Glenn Jacobs (Kane)

Run time: 90 minutes

A group of friends pays a late-night visit to the city morgue to surprise Amy (Harris) on her birthday. But the surprise is on them when the one-eyed corpse of brutal psychopath Jacob Goodnight (Jacobs) unexpectedly rises from a cold sub-basement slab. Their wild party quickly turns into a terrifying slay-fest as the sadistic mass-murderer resumes his savage rampage complete with hooks, surgical knives and power saws.

In See No Evil 2, we see the return of Jacob Goodnight (Glenn Jacobs) and this time he is locked in a morgue with a brand See No Evil 2new set of victims. Scream queens Danielle Harris (Halloween, Hatchet) and Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, American Mary) share the screen and face off with one of horror’s most intimidating foes.

If you liked the first film, you will love this one. The kills are more horrifying than before and Jacob Goodnight’s arsenal of weapons has gotten larger, sharper and even more brutal. Jen and Sylvia Soska not only directed this film, but they have a brief cameo at the beginning during the opening credits.

See No Evil 2Katharine Isabelle is known mostly for her sexy, badass roles, but in See No Evil 2, she is a bit of a comedic relief. That is one of the many things that makes this film great. Not only is there gore and fear, but there is a perfect mix of drunken, fearful comedy. Danielle Harris is a phenomenal combination of the damsel in distress and the fearless heroine. Glenn’s portrayal of Jacob Goodnight is absolutely terrifying. He has such a natural ability to convey rage and hate, he really looks like he means it. He doesn’t speak much, but the few lines that he does have throughout the film are delivered in an almost guttural growl. His performance is utterly perfect.

The new look of Jacob Goodnight, let’s call it cadaver chic, is even more frightening than in the first film. If you’re a fan of old See No Evil 2school WWF and WWE, you know Glenn is no stranger to wearing a mask, and he wears them well. He dawns the mask of a burn victim he finds in the morgue to cover up the eye that was destroyed in the first film. As a bit of a nod to American Mary, he also straps on an apron since his clothes were destroyed. The new look makes him look bigger and ready to destroy anything and anyone that gets in his way.

The setting of the film really added to the overall horror of this film. What makes Jacob Goodnight an even more terrifying killer? Being locked in a morgue with him. The lighting provided a very eerie environment throughout the entire film.

See No Evil 2See No Evil 2 is a breath of fresh, maddening air for horror fans. There was not a thing I found to complain about. The cast was great, the writing was phenomenal and the setting was ominous. See No Evil 2 is the perfect combination of terror and gore with a splash of comedy thrown in every now and then.

I recommend any horror fan see this film. If you haven’t seen the first one, you should, but it won’t effect your ability to enjoy the second installment. Both films carry different story lines and the only character they have in common is Jacob Goodnight.

I give See No Evil 2 a perfect 10 out of 10.

See No Evil 2: First Official Trailer and Release Date

see-no-evil-2San Diego Comic-Con brought forth a glimpse at a lot of great upcoming films and television shows, and one of those glimpses was the very first official trailer for See No Evil 2.

See No Evil 2 was written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby and directed by the Twisted Twins Jen and Sylvia Soska. The film stars WWE superstar Kane, Danielle Harris, Katharine Isabelle, Chelan Simmons, Michael Eklund and Kaj-Erik Erikson.

See No Evil 2 revives the nightmare of the first film when Jacob Goodnight rises from the dead in the city morgue after his killing spree at the Blackwell hotel. In this ominous, underground locker for the dead, a group of medical students fight to survive as this deranged psychopath once again starts to pick them apart one by one.

See No Evil 2 will be released directly to VOD, DVD and Blu-Ray. Lionsgate Home Entertainment will distribute the film. See No Evil 2 will be released to VOD on Friday, October 17th and on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, October 21st.

Horror’s Top Scream Queens To Star In WWE Entertainment’s ‘See No Evil 2’

danielle-harris-20134Well the cat is out of the bag, scream queens Danielle Harris (Halloween 4&5, Rob Zombie’s Halloween & H2who-is-katharine-isabelle-is-star-or-no-star-katherine-isobel-murray-celebrity-vote and Hatchet II & III) and Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy vs Jason and American Mary) will be starring in the sequel to WWE Entertainment and Lionsgate’s 2006 ‘See No Evil‘, ‘See No Evil 2‘.

Joining Danielle and Katharine are horror’s hottest writer/directer duo Jen and Sylvia Soska (Dead Hooker In A Trunk and American Mary), which Katharine Isabelle worked with on American Mary.  The twisted twins will be directing this film which was written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby and like the first installment, will be presented by WWE Entertainment and Lionsgate.  Glenn Jacobs aka Kane of the WWE will be returning as blood thirsty psychopath, Jacob Goodnight.

See No Evil 2‘ will pick up where the first installment left off, with Jacob Goodnight returning from the dead in the city morgue after his murderous rampage at the Blackwell Hotel.  glenn-jacobs-1759591379We will be introduced to a group of medical students that will soon fall prey to Jacob Goodnight in an all8793710 new murder spree.

I was a fan of the first ‘See No Evil‘, so I’m hoping with a cast that will include Danielle Harris and Katharine Isabelle, as well the return of Glenn Jacobs as Jacob Goodnight, the Soska sisters will direct another incredible film and make this a sequel worth seeing.

See No Evil 2‘ is currently in pre-production and will begin filming this fall.

Celebrate Independence Day with American Mary

I watched this movie for the first time yesterday.  I wanted to wait on some of the hype to die down, but I really don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon.  I figured, what better way to celebrate Independence Day than to review this absolutely genius movie, American Mary.

American Mary was written and produced by the lovely Jen and Sylvia Soska aka the Twisted Twins.  Soska is a name everyone should get used to seeing around the horror genre quite regularly because they are genius.

Katherine Isabelle is incredible as med student gone bad, Mary Mason.  The character of Mary, as twisted as it sounds, is very easy to relate to.  She’s smart, beautiful and pushed too far by her professor who rapes her at a party.  The development behind this character is fantastic.  There is no aspect of the character back story that is over looked.  All the way down to her concerned Nana.

All of the characters in American Mary were great.  The character of Beatress was startling, but eerily charming.  She is a plastic surgery addict that looks like Betty Boop.  She introduces Mary to a whole new world of people that want her help.

A pair of her most unusual clients are none other than the gorgeous Soska twins themselves.  Their acting is every bit as good as their writing and producing.

I will definitely watch this film again and encourage anyone else that hasn’t seen it to watch it.  American Mary has all of the elements to quickly become a cult classic.  The twists and turns of the plot tie together seamlessly.  No part of this film is predictable, it kept me guessing the whole time.  It’s not a gorefest, but still very appealing to all fans of the horror genre.

I can not wait to see more from these awesome ladies.  They are definitely showing that the horror genre doesn’t just belong to the guys anymore.  5 star entertainment for sure.  Keep up the great work ladies!
