As promised, I am keeping up with the lovely Harley Quinn and her new adventures in her DC New 52! series.  Harley 2013 is shaping up to be a great comic series.  In issues #0 we met the artists and their visions of Harley and in #1, Harley’s new story began.  Harley is now on issue #2 of this new story.

As many of you remember from the original Batman animated series and the other line of Harley Quinn comics, she had a few friends.  The Joker aka Mr. J/Puddin’ and the lovely Poison Ivy.  In #2, Harley’s best friend Poison Ivy makes an appearance to help her rescue some animals that are about to be put down at a local shelter, hence the name “Helter Shelter”.  There is also a brief cameo of Mr. J at the beginning, it is just a statue, but his likeness is used briefly.

There are a lot of comedic moments in #2.  There isn’t a lot of back and forth banter between Ivy and Harley, but what is there is quite funny.  There are a lot of moments that are very reminiscent of the older Harley series.  The biggest change is that Harley, so far, has been more of a heroine than a villain. In this issue especially, Harley shows a softer, more emotional side.

I do disagree with the rating of T for this series.  There have been a lot of sexual innuendos and near nudity, in #2 especially.  Towards the ends, there are a few panels of Harley and Ivy barely clothed sharing a bed.  Just be prepared for some dirty talk, lots of cartoon cleavage and occasional booty shots.

The cover art is very colorful and eye catching.  The art on the inside is just as appealing.  The colors are vibrant and the illustrations are very well detailed. The great artwork makes up for the lack of reading.

Overall, I loved Harley Quinn 2013 #2.  It was funny, witty, sassy and very well structured.  I would recommend this new series and will continue to read it myself.

Issue #3 is due out on Wednesday, February 19th

If you are interested in the series but have not picked up #0 or #1, click the links below, and there is a link at the top to purchase #2.
