Joker’s Daughter is not new to the DC universe, but like many other DC characters, she has received a makeover in this “THE NEW 52!” one shot. She made her New 52! appearance in the revamp of the Catwoman series where she was sporting the Joker’s face as a flesh mask after it was cut off by the Dollmaker.
I picked this up on my weekly visit to my local comic shop (Heroic Adventures). The cover and story both looked promising.
Who is The Joker’s Daughter? What horrors lurk in the mind of this deranged lunatic, and why is there more to her than meets the eye? More than just a crazy person who stumbled upon The Joker’s face, more than just a woman with a mission, The Joker’s Daughter sees herself as a woman on the path of greed, dominance and lordship over the Gotham Underground. This special issue tells a sordid tale in the life of one of DC’s most popular new villains!
The art work in this book is absolutely stunning. The colors are all dark, but they still pop. Each panel is beautifully detailed.
The story that Marguerite Bennett wrote is creepy and suspenseful. I am a huge fan of Harley Quinn, but Joker’s Daughter may be the creepier, most sadistic female version of Joker.
The only spoilers that I will give you about this issue, Joker’s Daughter goes after the Dollmaker to make the Joker flesh mask her real face. It is a twisted, graphic sequence that results in a new crowned princess of crime. Not only does she get a creepy new face, but she goes as far as having the blood of Joker injected into herself.
If you are a fan of Joker, Harley Quinn or the previous appearances of Joker’s Daughter, I highly recommend this book to you. It is a great read and you won’t be disappointed. I really hope DC decides to either write her into more stories in other series, giver her her own series or both. I am loving this character.
